Gateway

Use as CSC gateway

A gateway, which is used in conjunction with octoplant, is a octoplant-specific software solution that provides a service on a computer. From the point of view of IT security, often only data traffic related to octoplant is forwarded; other applications are filtered out of the communication or blocked. Ultimately, a tunnel is created, which often avoids a very costly network expansion with a firewall or an additional router. In contrast to the agent, a CSC gateway can also be used for client-server communication such as Check-In and Check-Out.

Use as a gateway for network transitions

The gateway is most frequently used in the area of network transitions. As an application example, the transition to a Profibus network is discussed here, which is very often found in CNC controllers, among other things. In particular, it looks at the Sinumerik 840D Powerline, which has no ethernet connections and can therefore only be addressed via Profibus. However, a gateway enables the PC unit to be addressed via ethernet and to forward required data from the Profibus network. Backup of an older generation of machines is now possible without any changes to the hardware or software. Depending on the machine manufacturer's configuration, a suitable access point for octoplant must be found or, if possible, established.
