Term: Version¶

A version is a "snapshot" of the content of a component (e.g. an S7 project). Versions are only ever created for individual components.

A version is created when important changes in the project need to be saved for possible restoration. Only one version can be created at a time. If a new version is created, the files in the component and its subdirectories are saved in a new version in the file system after applying the rules in the comparator configuration. In parallel, the information on the reason for the change, comments, version identifier etc. is saved in the metadata for the component.

Versions are automatically documented with user name, computer, date and time.
