Client installation

Info

In Octoplant, no separate licensing is required to install clients. Only the server is licensed.

The Octoplant clients can be installed on the same computer as the server (with exception of the BackupClient) or on any Windows-based computer connected to the server. You can find the approved operating systems in our Installation requirements.

The octolant_clientSetup_{version} directory contains the following two applications:

  • octoplantClient_Setup.exe
  • octoplantBackupClient_Setup_exe

By default, both applications can install the following clients:

  • UserClient
  • AdminClient
  • EasyClient
  • ReportClient

Additional options are:

The BackupClient can only be installed using the octoplantBackupClient_Setup_exe application.

During installation, you have several options for specifying the storage location of the program files and the client archive.

Info

For security reasons and to prevent users from overwriting each other's changes on the clients, we recommend using a separate client archive for each user and storing it in the user's Windows directory.

When you update from an Octoplant version earlier than 104.1 or from a versiondog installation, the shared client archive is retained by default.

Info

The client archive directory name must not contain any Chinese characters. If it does, the system ignores the path and uses the default client archive path instead.

For detailed instructions on configuring client archives, see Move the client archive to another location.

FAQ

Incorrectly displayed characters

We have improved Unicode support. Not all Unicode characters are displayed correctly by older operating systems. The exact range of supported Unicode characters depends on the Windows version used and the installed language packs.

Encryption of client-server communication

All client-server communication is encrypted using TLS1.2 or TLS1.3.

Transport Layer Security (TLS) contains software developed by the OpenSSL Project for use in the OpenSSL Toolkit http://www.openssl.org/.
