Installing the clients using the MSI

The MSI installation for octoplant allows multiple options for specifying the locations of program files and the client archive.
This guide explains the installation process for different user scenarios, how to configure file paths, and available product features.

For the MSI installation, you will find these 2 files in the setup folder:

  • octoplantClient.msi: executable file to start the installation wizard.
  • octoplantClient_Setup.exe: execute only if you want to:
    • Select a non-default language for the wizard (the default is your current Windows language)
    • Start the wizard as an administrator to be able to install the clients for all users.
To do this, right-click, then select Run as Administrator.

Default paths for program files and client archive

Administrator installation

If you are logged into Windows as an administrator, you can install the clients in two ways:

  • Single instance for all users:

    • Program files: C:\Program Files (x86)\AMDT\octoClient
    • Client archive: %USERPROFILE%\octoplant\ClientArchive\
  • User-specific instance:

    • Program files: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Apps\AMDT\octoClient
    • Client archive: %USERPROFILE%\octoplant\ClientArchive\

Standard user installation

If you are logged in as a standard user, the clients can only be installed for the current user:

  • Program files: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Apps\AMDT\octoClient
  • Client archive: %USERPROFILE%\octoplant\ClientArchive\

Upgrading from a previous version

  • When updating from a previous version of octoplant or versiondog, the existing common client archive is retained.
  • You can choose to continue using the existing client archive or switch to the new user-specific archive path or any other desired common archive path.
  • All default paths can be manually overridden during the installation process.

Standard product features

By default, the following clients will be installed with the MSI:

  • UserClient
  • AdminClient

  • ReportClient
