Updating client applications¶
As soon as you start a client that has an earlier octoplant version than the server, the message Update octoplant is displayed. If you confirm this message with Yes, the update of the client applications is started automatically. This functionality is referred to as SmartUpdate.
Prerequisites for SmartUpdate¶
To execute a SmartUpdate, users require the following rights:
- Full access to the client archive.
- Write access to the installation directory of the octoplant client applications.
Installation requirements for mounted drives
We recommend that you do not install the client archive on a mounted drive. Should you have to, please be aware of the following:
- If the client archive will be installed in a directory that requires elevated rights (write rights) and the setup is run as administrator, the mounted drive on which the client archive will be located must be mounted for the user and for the administrator account.
- When carrying out a Smartupdate, the setup must be run as administrator if the installation directory requires elevated rights (write rights). The client archive must also be mounted for the administrator if it is mounted for a standard user.
Info
A SmartUpdate can be executed without administrator rights so long as the user has been given sufficient rights to the program directory (vdogClient) and the data archive (vdClientArchive). However, if the BackupClient is also installed, administrator rights are required for the SmartUpdate (and to run the BackupClient in general).
Updating clients manually¶
Alternatively, the update of the clients can be executed manually via the Setup.exe
file or via a Script/MSI package.
Info
The MSI package is subject to a charge and is available from us as a service on request. Please contact your AMDT contact person.
