Migration from versiondog to octoplant

When migrating from versiondog to octoplant, all data from the old system can be transferred, i.e. components, versions, component types, jobs, users, settings, etc.

Info

The hardware and software requirements for octoplant can be found in the Installation requirements tutorial.

Requirements for a migration

  • Before the migration, create a consistent backup of the data as described in the tutorial Data backup and data recovery and in the tutorial on AdminClient, in the section Maintenance mode.
  • It is necessary to update versiondog to 9.7.2 prior to migration.

  • An additional port TCP 64023 is required to migrate an older versiondog version to octoplant 101. A complete list of the required ports can be found in the tutorial Installation requirements, section Ports used by default.

Migration of the server

  1. Copy the octoplant software package to the computer on which the versiondog server is running.

  2. Start the migration by double-clicking on the Setup.exe file contained in the octoplant software package.

  3. The octoplant installation wizard is started.
  4. The subsequent installation steps are the same as for updating to a new versiondog or octoplant version. You can find a description of this in the Update octoplant tutorial, under Updating the server.

Migration of the clients

A separate installation of the clients is not necessary. As soon as you start one of the previous versiondog clients, the message Update versiondog is displayed. If you confirm this message with Yes, the SmartUpdate of the clients is carried out. Alternatively, the Clients can be updated manually via the Setup.exe file or via a Script/MSI package.

You can find more information on updating the clients in the Update octoplant tutorial in the section Updating client applications.
