Licensing

You need a valid license to use the octoplant system.

Figure: Licensing and activation process

octoplant licenses are subscription licenses. Each license has a renewal date and an expiration date.

  • The renewal date specifies the term of the subscription.
  • The expiration date specifies until when the license can be used for the installation and must be activated.

When the subscription is renewed, you will receive a license file from our order management team with the name license.json. During installation, you will be asked for the location of this file.

30 days before the expiration date, you as administrator will be notified at login that the license will expire in the near future. After the expiration date has been reached, the license can still be used for 14 days. During this time, a message is displayed to each user when they log in. From the 15th day after the license expires, you will only be able to open the Licensing dialog in the AdminClient.

Both the expiration and the renewal date are available in the license file, which can be edited with any text editor like Notepad++.

Info

If the maximum number of clients you have ordered has been reached, you will need a new license.

If you click on the Licensing menu item, the Licensing dialog will then open. This consists of three tabs.

Information

This tab is selected by default when you open the Licensing dialog. It shows all important data for your license, including the expiration date of a subscription license (License valid until).

Activation

The Activation tab shows the system ID of your octoplant system. It is created on your server and is unique for your installation.

  2. In return, you will receive the activation code for your license.
  3. Copy the activation code into the Activation code field.
  4. Select the Activate button.
  5. Your license will be activated.

  2. Select the Update button.
  3. Your license will be updated.

Info

If the serial number of the license has changed, please note the following:

  • After importing the new license, the VDog MasterService must be restarted.

FAQ

Licensing with an unused license file shows error message

Situation: Some time ago I requested and received a license file (license.json). The file was saved correctly, but remained unused for some time. When I try to relicense using the file in question, an error message is now displayed stating that the selected license has expired.

The license file has expired. Each license file has a fixed expiration date and can be used from the day it was generated until this period expires. If this period has expired without the license being activated, the license file becomes unusable, i.e. it is no longer possible to install with this file or to import the license into octoplant. If you need to reactivate your applications, you must request a new license file from support.
