Assigning and revoking rights for groups and users¶
-
Open the User Management module.
-
Select a group in the Groups area on the left-hand side.
- Select your project in the right-hand area on the Project tree tab.
- Assign rights by activating and deactivating the corresponding checkboxes.
- Click on Save in the menu bar.
Important Notes on assigning rights
- Rights of the Administrators group cannot be changed. Administrators generally have all rights to all directories.
- Note the folder icons for the four levels of rights (see User management screenshot above).
- Read (Check-Out)
- Edit (Edit, Create new versions and Check-In)
- Create (Create new components)
- Delete (Delete components permanently from the server archive)
- Each user can delete components from his local client archive.
- Rights are cumulative, therefore lower rights are included.
-
The rights of individual users are retained, regardless of the group rights. If you only use group rights, you do not need to check remaining individual rights after each change to the group rights.
-
A green checkmark shows the root of a right.
- A gray checkmark shows inherited rights.
-
Gray checkmarks cannot be removed to revoke inherited rights. When an attempt is made, the gray checkmark is replaced by a green checkmark.Gray checkmarks cannot be removed directly. They must be removed in the root.
-
When using tooltips, the root of the right is displayed (see FAQ How can I activate tooltips?).
-
To revoke some of the inherited rights from a user in a group without changing the rights of the other group members, you must create a new group for this user.
Assigning rights to paths in the Project tree¶
This function can be used to assign rights to paths in the Project tree. It can also be used as a quick overview of who has access to a particular component. Proceed as follows:
- Click on User Management.
- Click on the Rights by path button on the Extras tab in the menu bar.
- Select a component/folder(s) in the Rights by path dialog in the Project tree.
- The rights of the groups/users to the components in the Project tree are displayed in the right-hand area. Edit the rights according to your specifications for the users.
- Finally, save your configuration.
Assigning group rights for component types¶
This function can be used to assign rights to selected component types to groups. This can be done at the root level of the Project tree or for specific directories and subdirectories.
Info
You can only use this function to assign rights to component types that already exist in the Component library. The process must be repeated for each new component type that is created.
Open the User Management and carry out the following steps:
- Click on the Rights by component type button in the menu bar on the Extras tab.
- The Rights by component type dialog is displayed.
- Select the Group to which rights are to be assigned.
- Select a Path by selecting a Directory in the displayed Project tree.
-
It is possible to revoke previous rights before new rights are assigned. To do this, activate the checkbox Remove all current rights.
Info
All previous rights of the selected group for the selected path or the entire Project tree are revoked.
-
Click on the Component types field to select the component types. Activate the checkboxes to the left of the component types. Rights are only granted for the selected component types and only for components in the directory selected in step 4. If you want to select all component types of a specific manufacturer, select the checkbox next to the manufacturer name at the highest level of the list.
- Select the right you want to assign from the New rights: dropdown menu.
- Click on Execute.
-
The Modify rights dialog is displayed and shows details of each adjustment made.
Info
If no list of adjustments is displayed, no changes have been made. This means that you have already assigned the selected rights for this combination of group, path and component types.
-
Close the Modify rights dialog.
- Use the menu bar to save (or discard) the changes.
