Importing groups and users manually¶
Users and groups from the Active Directory can be imported automatically or manually to octoplant.
When importing manually, you decide when and how often you want to import users and groups from the Active Directory.
Info
The manual import can be carried out as often as required.
The prerequisite for manual import is that the Active Directory connection is configured and activated. To do this, the following steps must be carried out in advance:
To perform the manual import, proceed as follows:
-
Open the Synchronization tab in the menu bar and click on the button Import now.
Info
The Import now button is only active if the configuration of the Active Directory connection is activated. No import is possible without activation. If the configuration of the Active Directory connection is activated, but the Import now now button is still inactive, check and confirm the settings in the configuration dialog of the Active Directory connection again.
-
The manual import is carried out.
The following generally applies:
- Users and groups newly imported into octoplant are highlighted in color in the User Management module and are write-protected. To remove the write protection and color highlighting, the Active Directory connection must be deactivated. To deactivate the Active Directory connection, click the Activate button on the Synchronization tab (if the Active Directory connection is deactivated, the Activate button is not highlighted in orange).
- Users with versiondog or AUVESY (in upper or lower case) as part of the name, will not imported. They are ignored during import.
- The number of users that can be imported depends on the license purchased. For license questions, please contact us.
- Groups that are imported through the DN "All Users" group field and do not yet exist in octoplant are newly created during the import in octoplant and initially have no rights. The imported users of the groups also have no rights initially. The imported users are assigned to both the newly created group and the All Users group in octoplant.
- Groups that are imported through the DN "Administrators" group field are not created as groups in octoplant. Their users are imported directly into the Administrators group. Furthermore, the imported users are also assigned to the All Users group in octoplant.
FAQ¶
Why is it that only groups (without users) or nothing at all are being read from Active Directory?
You have apparently configured everything correctly and yet only groups (without users) or nothing at all are being read from the Active Directory?
This may be because the user under which the connection to the Active Directory is made does not have the corresponding access rights for readings groups and users in the Active Directory itself.
Check the access rights and assign them to the user that you specified in the Server section of the Active Directory binding dialog.
