Check out components

Prerequisite

  • You can check out components only when a server connection is available. Make sure that the Icon Server document button above the Project tree is selected.

Procedure

Before checking out a component, select one of the three available views in the Project tree.

  1. Select the component in the Project tree.
  2. Open the Start tab in the menu bar, or right-click the component and select Check-Out.
  3. In the Check-out dialog, verify that the desired components are selected.
  4. On the right-hand side, select which versions should be copied to the client archive during checkout. By default, only the latest version of the component is copied.

    Tip

    During check-out, you can copy the latest component backup to a separate directory in the client archive. You can use this copy then for disaster recovery, for example.

    If no job is configured for the component, or if no backup is available, a message is displayed for this step. The version check-out will proceed regardless.

  5. Select Check-Out and close.

After the Check-Out is complete:

  • A pop-up in the notification area displays the result.

    You can enable or disable this pop-up in the Client settings dialog.

  • The component type icon appears in color in the Project tree.
