Comparing various files
With FreeCompare, you can quickly check the differences between two any files stored on your computer using octoplant comparators. You can select files from the Project tree or from the file manager. These could be, for example, two files within a component or files that are not stored in your octoplant system at all.
-
In the Home tab of the menu bar, select the Free compare button.
The Free comparator dialog opens.
-
Navigate to the two files that you want to compare in the First comparator partner and Second comparator partner fields and select them.
Tip
Use the Physical view and Logical view options to change how files are displayed in the comparator fields. The logical view displays only the elements that can be compared with the selected comparator. The physical view displays all the elements available in the selected directory. For more information about these views, see Views.
You can select the files using the navigation bar in each field or drag and drop them directly from the Project tree or your file manager.
-
From the Comparator dropdown menu, select the comparator you want to use. You can use any comparator type, regardless of the component type.
- Select the Start comparison button.
The Comparison dialog opens, listing the differences between the selected files.
