Restoring an image

To restore the image, you will need the following files:

  • SNA file
  • snapshot.exe

Info

In order to completely restore a differential image, the SNA file of the last complete image must be available in addition to the SNA file of the actual differential image.

This data must be available for the device that is to be restored, e.g.

  • on the local hard disk,
  • on a connected network drive or
  • on a connected USB data carrier.

Info

If images are stored directly in the server archive (transfer path Device -> Temporary storage -> archive), they must be copied to a local hard disk, a connected network drive or a USB data carrier before the restoration.

Restoring images from the local hard disk or a connected network drive

  1. Run the Snapshot.exe application on the device to be restored.

  2. Restore the image using the Drive Snapshot user interface.

Info

For more information on the functionality of Drive Snapshot, please refer to the manufacturer's documentation.

Restoring images using a boot stick

  1. Insert the boot stick into the computer that you want to restore and set it to boot from the USB stick.

    Info

It may be necessary to start the computer using Restart instead of Shutdown.

  2. When booting, Drive Snapshot is started directly.

    Figure: Drive Snapshot, Startup dialog

  3. Select the Restore Disk from File button.

  4. Select the path to the image (SNA file) to be restored. This can also be a UNC path (network share).
  5. If it is a UNC path, you will then be asked for your access data in the command line to establish the connection to the network.

    Info

When entering the password, you can navigate between the fields using the arrow keys.

  6. Select the target partition/hard disk to which the image is to be restored.
