Extracting device information
Asset information is essential for various operational and security use cases. By extracting detailed asset data, you can identify Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE), giving your organization a competitive advantage in cybersecurity risk assessment and mitigation.
The Asset Analysis feature is embedded within the job execution workflow and is triggered during the Upload process.
Extracted asset information from project files is seamlessly integrated into octoplant pro hub, allowing users to monitor and analyze their industrial assets efficiently.
Key benefits
- Comprehensive device insights: Displays detailed information about connected assets, including:
- Vendors: The number of assets associated with each vendor.
- Models: A breakdown of the different device models in the system.
- Firmware versions: The number of different firmware versions in use.
- Servers: The number of different assets per server.
- Enhanced security monitoring: Helps identify potential security vulnerabilities based on extracted asset data.

How it works
The Asset Analysis feature is enabled by default and operates as part of a job execution workflow in octoplant.
The asset information extractor runs during the job execution. It executes only once per version, reducing execution time.
To disable asset analysis globally, perform the following steps:
- Start the AdminClient.
- Select the Jobs module.
- On the top navigation panel, select Global job settings.
- In the General settings, in the Asset information area, deselect the Collect asset information during job execution checkbox.
- Select OK to confirm.
Alternatively, you can disable asset analysis for a specific component:
- Start the AdminClient.
- Select the Component type editor module.
- On the rightmost panel, select the desired component.
- In the General section of the compoent, select the Exclude from Asset Analysis checkbox.
Asset data extraction process
- Reading asset information: The Asset Analysis reads asset information from the project file.
- Data extraction: Extracts relevant asset data.
- API integration: If supported, leverages API-based integration for efficiency.
Asset data export to octoplant pro hub
- Data transmission: Extracted asset data is sent to octoplant pro hub.
- Analysis and reporting: Users can view and analyze asset information in the Asset Inventory report in octoplant pro hub.
By leveraging the Asset Analysis feature, users can efficiently manage their device inventory, improve security monitoring, and streamline asset management processes in octoplant pro hub.
