Data backup methods

There are different methods of data backup. When creating images with Acronis, the methods Full backup and Differential backup are supported.

  • With a full backup, all data to be backed up is saved in an image each time.
  • With a differential backup, only the data that has changed or been added since the last full backup is backed up. The differential backup therefore requires a previously created full backup.

In Job configuration, specify whether differential backups are always created and at what intervals you want to perform full backups.

If a job is executed before the configured time period is exceeded, a differential backup is created.

If the configured time period since the last full backup has been exceeded, a new full backup is created.

Both files, i.e. the full backup and the differential backup copy, are required for a restoration.

A regular differential backup requires less storage space than a full backup. However, the restoration of the backup is slower than with a full backup, as the last full backup and the differential backup are required for a restoration.
