Drive Snapshot and PsExec¶
octoplant supports the creation of images with the Drive Snapshot program. For operating systems that are supported by octoplant (Windows 10, for example), no additional external tool is required for the creation of images in addition to a licensed version of Drive Snapshot.
However, for operating systems that are not supported by octoplant (Windows NT for example), another external tool is required to create images in addition to Drive Snapshot: PsExec. PsExec can be used to start processes on any computer in the network (provided the necessary rights are granted). PsExec can be downloaded free of charge from the Internet.
Info
Passwords and access data are encrypted by octoplant by default.
Notes on the use of PsExec¶
- AMDT recommends the use of PSExec 2.1 or higher.
- PSExec 2.1 supports computers with Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher and transmits access data in encrypted form. It is recommended to use the -h and -accepteula options.
- For computers with Windows XP, Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows NT, PsExec 1.94 or a previous version must be used. However, these do not support encryption or the -h and -accepteula options.
- octoplant allows the use of different PsExec versions. For each job, you can specify which PsExec version is to be used and which PsExec options are to be used.
Info
If problems occur when using Drive Snapshot and PsExec in conjunction with octoplant, please check the functionality of these external tools outside the octoplant environment.
