Configuring SIMATIC STEP 5 jobs

Prerequisites

A valid installation of STEP 5:

  • on the computer on which the octoplant server is installed, or (if this is not possible)
  • on a computer that can be accessed by the octoplant server application through an agent.

Procedure

  1. Create a job with the SIMATIC S5 upload type.

  2. If the component contains several projects, select the desired project file (.S5D) from the dropdown menu under SIMATIC S5 settings*.

  3. Under Access path, select the access path used to communicate with the controller.

    The Access path details are updated automatically according to the selected access path.

  4. Under Backup, specify blocks that are to be ignored for this job during comparison and upload.

  5. In the Number of repeats if upload of a block fails field under Advanced, specify how many times the system should retry uploading a block if an error occurs. An error can occur when the controller accesses the block during job execution, causing it to be locked.

    Values between 0 and 5 are possible. If no access is possible after the defined attempts, the job is aborted with an error.

  6. If necessary, determine a sleep interval between sending data packets in order to reduce the network load.

    Values between 0 and 5000 ms are possible.
