Siemens TIA Portal requirements for octoplant

Compare Backup Asset inventory
Licensed TIA Portal required
Licensed TIA Openness required
All option packages, Hardware Support Packages (HSP) and GSD files used in the project must be installed

Hardware support (PLC families)

Compare Backup Asset inventory
SIMATIC S7-300/S7-400 (F) Limited Limited
SIMATIC S7-1200 (F)
SIMATIC S7-1500 (F)

Info

SIMATIC S7-300/S7-400 (F) does not support variable names on the PLC. These are lost when loading into the PLC. Therefore, comparison of the version with the backup is limited.

Requirements

  • To perform uploads using Siemens TIA Portal, ensure that a compatible version of both the editor and TIA Portal (including Openness) is installed on the same machine where either the server or an agent is running.

  • To perform comparisons using Siemens TIA Portal 15.1 or later, a separate editor installation is not required.

Restrictions

  • The upload is limited to the PLC part of the TIA Portal project.
  • The comparison is limited to the PLC, the HMI part of the TIA Portal project, WinCC Unified and Sinamics (Drives) parameters.
  • Due to limitations of the TIA Openness Interface, the hardware configuration is not fully included in the Station Upload backup. For disaster recovery purposes, it is recommended to use the most recent checked-in version. However, disaster recovery of all software components of a PLC is still possible using a Station Upload backup.
  • The checksum comparison data is not backed up. While the checksum job verifies software and hardware components by comparing their checksums, it does not back up any actual software or hardware data. As a result, it is not possible to restore the data generated by a checksum job from the backup file.
