System requirements

octoplant hub and server

Do not install the octoplant hub on a PC where an octoplant server is already running.
If you do, you will need to manually stop the octoplant hub-postgres service each time you reinstall or update the octoplant server.

To run the octoplant hub, the following mandatory system requirements must be met:

  • PostgreSQL 14 is included with the octoplant hub installer.
You cannot install the hub on a computer that already has another instance of PostgreSQL 14.
  • To update the hub to version 3.0, uninstall the previous version first, then install the latest one.
  • Port 64026 must be available for PostgreSQL. If this port is in use, the octoplant hub will not function.
  • A modern multi-core CPU
  • Minimum 16 GB RAM
  • One of the following supported Microsoft Windows operating systems:
    • Windows 10
    • Windows 11
    • Windows Server 2016
    • Windows Server 2019
    • Windows Server 2022
    • Windows Server 2025
  • At least 10 GB of free disk space
  • The computer running the octoplant hub must have network access to all octoplant servers whose data will be imported.
  • A supported web browser (latest stable version):
    • Google Chrome
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Microsoft Edge
    • Apple Safari
    • Opera
  • Access to an SMTP server from the computer running the octoplant hub is required.
SMTP is used to send password setup and reset emails for local users, and to notify the administrator of critical issues such as failed data imports.

The following optional requirements are recommended for full functionality:

  • Access to an LDAP server to import and authenticate users via LDAP
  • Internet access to enable features such as:
    • eAcademy
    • Automatic upload of user information
    • Online help

Info

These requirements are based on a medium-sized installation, with approximately 1 million data records in the job results log (total from all imported octoplant servers).
Larger installations may require additional RAM, disk space, or a more powerful CPU.
