What's new in versiondog 9.8.2 (July 2023)

The following table shows the optimizations made in the current versiondog version.

Setup, migration and update

The latest changes increase the stability and efficiency of the update / migration of the server system.

  • Update of the database version to PostgreSQL 15:

  • Update of the Server and BackupClient

    Info

    This means that the Server and BackupClient can only run on 64bit systems (newer than Windows 7). Official release from Windows Server 2019 and Windows 10 V2.

    • Adaptation of third-party libraries (incl. OpenSSL 1.1.1t).
    • Extended information output during setup.

  • Stabilization of client migration for better exception handling.

  • Stabilization of database migration from Firebird to PostgreSQL.
  • Bug fix for SmartUpdate of the agents.

Device integration and versioning

We are continuously improving the functionality and range of supported devices / editors and have now integrated the following editor:

  • ABB Robots: New component type
  • CODESYS V3: Support upload
  • FTP Upload:
    • Adjustment of the job configuration regarding the use of symlinks.
    • Bug fix so that special characters in path names can also be handled.
  • GE Proficy project data: Bug fix for comparison.
  • Ladder Logic networks: improvement of line drawing.
  • Logic networks: improvement of before-after detection.
  • Mitsubishi GX Works2: Improvement of error message during comparison.
  • Mitsubishi GX Works3: Improved exception handling when unfolding the Project tree.
  • Omron CX-Programmer:
    • Improvement of exception handling during comparison to increase system stability.
    • Bug fix when comparing programs with protected function blocks.
  • Rockwell FactoryTalk View 11: Bug fix in comparison so that adjustments to images are also recognized
  • RSLogix 5000:
    • Support V35
    • Bug fix in comparison display
  • Schneider EcoStruxure Control Expert: Support V15.3
  • Siemens Simatic S7: Error correction during comparison so that the structure of data blocks is displayed correctly.
  • Siemens Simatic WinCC: Optimization of the backup of databases.
  • Siemens TIA Portal:
    • Optimizing the management of Standard libraries.
    • Improving the stability of the Upload by optimizing communication to the device.
    • Troubleshooting the comparison of TIA V17 projects so that changes to the gateway address are also detected.
    • Optimizing the configuration of the comparison so that individual variables can be included or excluded during comparison.
    • Improvement of the error message when handling the TIA Portal editor.
    • Adaptation of comparison so that differences in remanence are also recognized.
    • Bug fixing in the configuration of comparison when H-CPUs are integrated.

User management

It is important for administrators to be able to manage their users efficiently and intuitively. This service is now improved.

  • Optimization of the LDAP connection: Adjustments to the group membership of users can be correctly adopted
  • Improved handling of users to increase security.

Usability/Interface

We have adapted the interface for easier and more secure handling and access to information.

  • ExportModule

    • Extension of the automatic export to export data within a certain time window.
    • Bug fix regarding the missing export AssetState - adaptation of the format of the exports user management, component types and component tree.

    This has changed the structure of the exports. For customer-specific solutions, a corresponding adaptation may be necessary.

  • VDogGateway: adaptation of the configuration templates for the installation.

  • Image Service jobs.
  • Active directory:
    • Optimization of the error message when a User locked in the active directory tries to log in
    • Security adjustments for authentication.
  • Parallel server: Optimization of the user interface when creating the support package in the parallel server set
  • ReportClient: Bug fix so that timestamps of versions are displayed correctly.
  • Job configuration:
    • Bugfix so that the execution status is also displayed correctly when the job is executed using an agent (upload and compare).
    • Display bugfix
  • Agents:
    • Update bugfix so that the warning is displayed correctly for the supported operating systems.
    • Agent setup: correction to the display of texts.
  • LibraryManagement: bugfix when checking S7 400 data.

System performance/stability

Stable and efficient software is the be-all and end-all for us and is improved by the following adjustments:

  • Increased system stability and performance when exporting Job results The export does not run into a Timeout even with larger data volumes and can now also be exported as a JSON file.
  • Stabilization of the existing connection to Claroty.
  • Execution of an external pentest by Outpost24 completed with positive results.
  • Performance optimization of the VDog MasterService so that it now starts faster.
  • Stabilization of the job configuration: longer job names can also be used.
  • Drive Snapshot: Update so that special characters can also be used for FTP passwords.
  • Elimination of the dependency on Microsoft DirectX 11 to simplify installation.
  • Parallel server:
    • Stabilization of the AdminClient interface.
    • Stabilization of the synchronization process when synchronizing components.
  • Stabilization of the Check-Out process so that it also works with a slow network connection.
  • AutoCheckOut: Backups can be checked out again.
  • Stabilization of internal security handling so that the versiondog server runs properly even on slower host systems.
  • Increased system stability when displaying certain job results.
  • Improved data handling in debug logs.
  • Improved security mechanisms on the server system during job configuration.
  • Server synchronization:
    • Bug fix so that the exchange of component type information is performed more stably.
    • Improved exception handling when users with different IDs are used.
    • Bug fix so that the job result of the synchronization is displayed correctly.
  • AutoCheckIn: Bug fix so that umlauts in the version identifier can be handled.
  • Image Service: bug fix when running using an agent.

Miscellaneous

We have also made adjustments in other areas to improve your user experience.

  • Continuation of the modernization of the versiondog Server In connection with this, the license format was changed from_.bin to_.json. With this release, only JSON license files. can be imported via the Licensing dialog. The information output in the dialog has been adapted accordingly.
  • Adaptation of the user information exported from the server so that it contains anonymized client information.
  • Bug fix in the Licensing dialog so that the product version is displayed correctly.
  • Exception handling when collecting asset information that is transferred to AMDT if the corresponding option is activated in the AdminClient.
  • Improved handling of temporary user information to increase product security.
  • Parallel server: Increased stability of the System dashboard in the AdminClient.
