Data backup and data recovery¶
All data required for data recovery in the versiondog system can be found in the server archive (directory vdServerArchive
). It is recommended to back up the server archive regularly, but especially before an update of the system.
The server archive data can be backed up manually or automatically both for individual servers and in parallel server operation.
- A manual data backup is useful if you want to create a backup copy of your data before a system update.
- An automatic data backup, for example via a batch file, is a way of backing up data at regular intervals.
Warning
During the data backup, the system must be shut down and is therefore not available. It is recommended to perform the data backup at off-peak times, for example at night or at weekends.
FAQ¶
How can I manually delete the contents of the temporary server archive?
Normally versiondog automatically deletes the contents of the temporary server archive ({Drive}:\vdServerArchive\VD_TMP_VD
) at every start (and permanently). Under certain circumstances, the automatic deletion process may not be successful. In this case, the temporary server archive can be deleted manually.
You must close all clients and stop the VDog MasterService before you can delete the contents of the directory {Drive}:\vdServerArchive\VD_TMP_VD
.
