Parallel server system: Restoring data (one server fails)

Example scenario: During operation, server B of the parallel server set is destroyed due to a hardware failure. Server A is still fully functional. Parallel server operation is to be restored with minimal data loss, i.e. server B is to be reconnected to server A. Ideally, there should be no data loss.

Prerequisites

  • Server B has been set up again after the failure so that the versiondog server can be installed. The existing versiondog system has been uninstalled and is no longer available.
  • The user restoring the data backup has administrative rights on the server system.

Process

  1. Restore the backed up data to the vdServerArchive directory on server B. If there is a remote archive, copy it to the vdServerArchive directory of the remote share of server B.
  2. Install the versiondog server applications using the Setup.exe file from the versiondog setup directory. During installation, select the option Server with existing server archive to include the secured server archive.

Warning

We recommend that the installation with existing server archive is carried out with the same versiondog version that was used to create the server archive.
