Licensing

You need a valid license to use the versiondog system.

Info

As announced on our website, versiondog will no longer be sold from January 1, 2025.

versiondog licenses are regularly purchased licenses without expiration date. In addition, a 30 day trial license is available for a pilot installation.

If you click on the Licensing menu item, the Licensing dialog will then open. This consists of three tabs.

Information

This tab is selected by default when you open the Licensing dialog. It shows all important data for your license, including the expiration date of a subscription license (License valid until).

Activation

The Activation tab shows the system ID of your versiondog system. It is created on your server and is unique for your installation.

  2. In return, you will receive the activation code for your license.
  3. Copy the activation code into the Activation code field.
  4. Select the Activate button.
  5. Your license will be activated.

For support with any questions regarding licensing and activation, please contact our administration.

Update

If you want to renew or extend your license, you will receive a new license file license.json from us.

  1. Enter the path to the license file or select the file location from the dropdown menu.
  2. Select the Update button.
  3. Your license will be updated.

Info

If the serial number of the license has changed, please note the following:

  • The license must be updated in the Licensing dialog.
  • After importing the new license, the VDog MasterService must be restarted.

  • On parallel servers, error messages may appear in the Event Log, until the license has been replaced on both servers.

  • After the update has taken place, you should check whether the correct computer name is displayed in the Executed by field in the Jobs module in the Job configuration area.

FAQ

Licensing with an unused license file shows error message

Situation: Some time ago I requested and received a license file (license.json). The file was saved correctly, but remained unused for some time. When I try to relicense using the file in question, an error message is now displayed stating that the selected license has expired.

The license file has expired. Each license file has a fixed expiration date and can be used from the day it was generated until this period expires. If this period has expired without the license being activated, the license file becomes unusable, i.e. it is no longer possible to install with this file or to import the license into versiondog. If you need to reactivate your applications, you must request a new license file from support.
