Licensing

To use the versiondog system, you need a valid license. The licensing process can be summarized as follows:

Info

As announced on our website, versiondog will no longer be sold from January 1, 2025.

versiondog licenses are regularly purchased licenses without expiration date. In addition, a 30 day trial license is available for a pilot installation.

Displaying license information

To view information about your license, including the expiration date of subscription and the renewal date, you have two options:

  • Open the license JSON file with any text editor, like Notepad++.
  • Open the Information tab of the Licensing dialog.

Activating a license

Info

Generally, versiondog must be activated within 30 days after receiving the license. The period depends on the expiration date specified in the license.

After successful installation and configuration of your versiondog system, proceed as follows to active the license:

  1. Open the Activation tab of the Licensing dialog. The Activation tab shows the system ID of your versiondog system. It is created on your server and is unique for your installation.

  2. Send the system ID to AMDT using the Send by email button. In return, you will receive the activation code for your license.

  3. Copy the activation code into the Activation code field.
  4. Select the Activate button. Your license will be activated.

Info

  • The system ID can also be sent to AMDT via the myAMDT portal by creating a support ticket under Open new Service Request > License and contracts.

  • If you have questions regarding licensing and activation, submit a support ticket via the myAMDT portal.

Reactivating a license

You need to reactivate the license if any of the following changes occur:

  • MAC addresses of network adapters (can be deactivated via license key)
  • Windows Product ID
  • Installed graphics adapters (if present)
  • Computer name and domain

Updating the license file after renewal or upgrade

If the serial number of a license has changed, you need to update the new license file.

  1. Download the license from the myAMDT portal > my Products > License Overview.
  2. Open the AdminClient and the tab Update.
  3. Enter the path to the license file or select the file location from the dropdown menu.
  4. Select the Update button. Your license will be updated.

After updating the license

  • Activate the new license.
  • Restart the VDog MasterService.

  • On parallel servers, error messages may appear in the Event Log, until the license has been replaced on both servers.

  • After the update has taken place, you should check whether the correct computer name is displayed in the Executed by field in the Jobs module in the Job configuration area.

FAQ

Licensing with an unused license file shows error message

Situation: Some time ago I requested and received a license file (license.json). The file was saved correctly, but remained unused for some time. When I try to relicense using the file in question, an error message is now displayed stating that the selected license has expired.

The license file has expired. Each license file has a fixed expiration date and can be used from the day it was generated until this period expires. If this period has expired without the license being activated, the license file becomes unusable, i.e. it is no longer possible to install with this file or to import the license into versiondog. To reactivate your applications, request a new license file via myAMDT portal.
