Workflow for editing projects
Factory TalkView data are created with the Application Manager or (from V11) with the FTV SE Application Manager. To create a base version of a Factory TalkView project, you have to manually create an .apb
file or (from V11) an .apb
file for each project and to copy it to the versiondog working directory.
FactoryTalk View Studio uses a central project folder to store project data. versiondog must be able to extract that checked-out data into this project folder.
During Check-Out, when editing the project, and when creating a new version, the system checks whether FactoryTalk View Studio is installed on the local client.
Check-Out
-
If FactoryTalk View Studio is installed on the client computer, versiondog unpacks the project into the local working directory and also copies it to the central data storage using the Application Manager.
When the comparison starts, versiondog copies the project from the FactoryTalkView central project storage to the component's working directory.
-
If FactoryTalk View Studio is not installed on the client computer, the project is only unpacked into the local working directory.
Opening the project in the editor
When you select the Open with editor option, the UserClient starts FactoryTalk View. FactoryTalk View opens the project from the central data storage for editing. The versiondog working directory remains untouched.
Creating a version
When you create a new version of the project in the UserClient, a change check is performed.
- If FactoryTalk View Studio is installed on the client computer, the project data is copied from the central data storage to the working directory using the backup function of the Application Manager.
- If FactoryTalk View Studio is not installed on the client computer, the working directory is compared with the previous version in the server archive.
The logical view in the Project tree of the UserClient and the change check always use the project data in the local working directory in the background, not the central storage of FactoryTalk View Studio.
Restoring a project
As of V11, FTV SE Application Manager uses .apb
files instead of .apa
files.
Therefore, you must save FTV SE Application Manager projects manually in the central data store.
- Open the FTV SE Application Manager.
- Select Local station.
- Select Restore an Archive.
- Choose the
.apb
data from the client archive. - Save your changes and close the application.
