Install TIA Portal Openness for jobs

From Version 15.1, TIA Portal Openness is preset when you install TIA Portal. This was not the case with previous versions. Jobs can only be executed if the corresponding version of Openness is installed for each TIA Portal version used. This is how you can find out the current status and find the installer for missing versions.

Add your user account to two user groups

To successfully run TIA Portal Jobs, make sure that the user account you specified when checking the user rights to run the versiondogservices is a member of the following two groups on the system on which uploads are to be performed: Administrators and Siemens TIA Openness.

If you use the upload type Station Upload and want to create a series of restorable backups with current values, there is a setting in the job configuration that you need to be careful with. (Otherwise each new backup, where only the current values have changed, will overwrite the previous one)

Which upload type is recommended for TIA Portal?

Upload type Station Upload is recommended if you have S7-1500 PLCs and use TIA Portal from version 15.1 (15.1, not 15.0). If you have S7-300/400/1200 PLCs or use an earlier TIA Portal Version, software upload is the alternative.

Software upload

The only option if you want a restorable Backup in the following cases

• The jobs are for S7-300/400/1200 PLCs (you need TIA Portal 13 SP1 or higher)
• The jobs are for S7-1500 PLCs and you have TIA Portal 13 SP1 or higher, but a previous version of 15.1.
