Installing and updating agents

Agents have their own dedicated installation routine. The setup file for agents is included in all octoplant software packages. The AgentSetup.exe file can be found in the installation directory of the server.

Installation requirements

Proceed as follows

  1. Run the AgentSetup.exe file on the machine designated for installation as an administrator.

  2. The installation wizard will then be started.

  3. Select a language. English and German are currently available.

  4. On the welcome page of the setup wizard, click on Next.

  5. Specify a directory for the agent binary files and a directory for the agent archive. You can enter the directory manually or you can click on ... to specify a directory.

  6. Image: Installation wizard, specifying paths program files and AgentArchive

We recommend that you keep the default paths.

  7. Click on Next.
  8. Specify the user account from which the octoplant services are started. You have two options: Local system account and Username. We recommend that you select the Username option and enter an account that has administrator rights on the client PC.
  9. Image: Installation wizard, user account specification

Installation can only be carried out on a user account with administrator rights. The local system account may not have the necessary rights.

  10. Click on Next.
  11. A summary will now appear.

Updating agents

If the agent service has read and write permissions to its program directory, the agents are automatically updated as soon as the server is refreshed, for example during a job execution.

How do I create an administrator account for the MasterService or for the VDog UploadAgent/VDog CompareAgent services?

The upload for some devices (For example: Atlas Copco tightening system controllers or SIEMENS TIA Portal) may not work if the service MasterService or VDog UploadAgent/VDog CompareAgent services are running under the Local System user account.

To change the user account that runs a service:

  1. Open Windows Services by pressing the Windows key + R and then enter services.msc in the dialog Run.

  2. For example, search for the MasterService and check under which account it is running. If it is running under Local System, the upload will not work.

  3. Image: Dienst VDog MasterService, Account

  4. Right-click MasterService and select Properties to modify the account.

  5. Open the tab Log On and select the option This account.

  6. Image: Properties of VDogMasterService, Login tab

  7. Enter account name and password, and then confirm the password.

  8. Click on OK.

  9. In the dialog Services, click on MasterService and then click on Restart to execute the service with the new settings.
